🏠 Google Actually Ships!
Sundar from Curry range
Gm. My computer screen randomly broke. Fixing it is going to be very expensive, but I don’t want to buy a new computer right before the M3 Macs are released. Ugh. Please, tell me what to do.

Gemini Is Here
I don’t know what the hell happened to Google between Monday and Thursday, but whatever it is, I’ll take two please.
On Monday, I talked about Google’s Gemini AI model getting postponed to January. But, on Thursday, we wake up to Gemini being released. January in December, I guess.
So, here’s the low down on Google’s surprise bombshell:
It’s actually 3 separate models. Gemini Nano is for phones, Gemini Pro is for Google’s services (mainly Bard), and Gemini Ultra is for data centers and enterprises.
It is the first model to score 90% on the 57-subject MMLU (massive multitask language understanding) test, outperforming human experts.
In a test of 32 benchmarks, Gemini outperformed GPT-4 on 30 of them.
It’s particularly strong on images and videos, which makes sense considering Google really emphasized Gemini’s multimodality.
It is run with Google’s in-house designed TPUs, which Google says will enable Gemini to be extremely reliable, scalable, and fast.
A lot to digest there, but the TLDR is that Gemini Ultra (the beefiest model) is the new state-of-the-art AI model.
You can start playing around with Gemini in Bard or on the Pixel 8 Pro, with Gemini Ultra coming out sometime next year.
Short Lived? With GPT-5 and/or Q* presumably coming sometime relatively soon, it’s unclear how long Gemini will enjoy pole position.
